    NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

    Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

    Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

    Online Submission

Authors must submit their manuscripts online at: http://www.editorialmanager.com/injp

Electronic submission substantially reduces the editorial processing and reviewing times and shortens overall publication times. Please follow the hyperlink “Submit online” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Please click the 'Login' button from the menu above and log in to the system as 'Author'. Then submit your manuscript and track its progress through the system. If you do not have an account with the journal, please create a new account.

The text of the manuscript can be prepared with the following file formats:

Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), Rich Text Format (.rtf) and LaTeX/ TeX (.tex) . The figures can be prepared in the common graphics file format, such as TIFF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PICT, PS, EPS.

For the initial submission, a single pdf file containing all the figures and tables can be uploaded.

However, full source files (text and figures) has to be uploaded at the later stage.

    Preparation and Submission of Manuscripts

The followings are the requirements, which should be met before submission of the manuscripts to Indian Journal of Physics.

The original typescript for a full paper should have Double Spacing and a wide margin (Single Column, print area - 21 cms × 14 cms). The title page should contain title, author(s), address(es), abstract, and Keywords. The main text should start on a new page. All pages should be numbered. The paper must be divided into sections beginning preferably with ‘Introduction’ and ending with Conclusions’. The main sections should be numbered as 1, 2, 3, etc. and the subsections as 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc.

Rapid communication is devoted to the announcement of timely and essential results.

Contributions to this and Note sections should not exceed 8 typed pages (double spaced), including figures, equations, tables and references. They should follow the same style and format as the full paper except that they need NOT be divided into sections.

The Review Article in frontier topics must be prepared as per the format of the full paper. Such an article should have a coverage of 15-25 printed pages of the journal. The review articles are only taken via invitation.

Final version of the Manuscript (after being accepted and edited) must be submitted with the Text in Microsoft WORD (or equivalent) / LaTeX /TeX format along with figures in postscript (.ps) / encapsulated postscript (.eps) / JPEG / TIFF / GIF / BMP or PICT format.

    I. Title

The title should be brief and yet convey the precise nature of the content of the paper. It should not contain any unnecessary abbreviation.

    II. Address

The Name(s) of the author(s) and address(es) of the institute where the research work was done, should be indicated. The name of the author to whom correspondence is to be addressed should be underlined. The present address(es) of the author(s), if it is different, maybe given as a foot note. Email address of the corresponding author must be provided.

    III. Abstract

An abstract of fewer than 250 words is required. It should contain the essence of the result achieved. Authors should avoid unnecessary abbreviation or jargon in the abstract.

    IV. Keywords

Appropriate Keywords (not less than four) must be provided for indexing and information retrieval services.

    V. Text

In the preparation of text, the authors should pay attention to the language (usage of words, grammar and construction of sentences), logical presentation, enumeration of assumptions made, justifications of approximations made etc. and all the limitations must be stated whenever and wherever necessary. Moreover, a paper must be self-contained, its presentation being clear, concise and satisfactory. The manuscript can be prepared using British or American English, but authors should remain consistent with a single language style throughout the manuscript. Authors are requested to draft the manuscript using roman typefaces.

    VI. Figures

The number of figures should be kept to a minimum (5-10). Each figure must be referred to in the text, be numbered and have a caption. The caption should be concise, clear and self-sufficient, and should be provided as a single list. The appropriate place of the figure should be indicated in the margin of the text. Axes of figures must be labelled properly. After acceptance, electronic files for the figures (Post Script Files/JPEG) are to be submitted.

    VII. Tables

Tables should be typed on separate sheets and each table should have a number and a selfexplanatory caption. Column headings of tables should be brief. Footnotes to the tables, if any, should be identified by superscript letters and placed at the bottom of the table. When papers include extensive tabular material or appendices, which may be of interest to relatively few readers, the material should be deposited with the Editorial Office.

    VIII. Formulae and Equations

Displayed formulae and equations should be numbered unambiguously. They should be numbered as (1), (2)... (not as 2.1, 3,2 etc.)

Vectors, special symbols, superscript and subscripts etc. should be identified with proper signs in the manuscript. International conventions in the choice of symbols, units and notations should be followed.

    IX. References

All references referred to text, tables and figures of a manuscript must be combined in a single list, numbered consecutively in their order of the first appearance and arranged in the same order at the end of the text material. They should be cited in the text by Arabic numerals in square brackets at appropriate places of a sentence, for example [1-5] etc. The references cited should be limited to the absolute minimum and the list to be submitted in a separate sheet containing names of all authors. The use of et al in a reference can only be used, when the number of authors is ten or more. The references should be presented as follows:

    [3 U Fano and A R P Rao Atomic Collisions and Spectra (New York : Academic) Vol 1, Ch 2, Sec 4, p 25 (1986)

    [7] T Atsumi, T Isihara, M Koyama and M Matsuzawa Phys. Rev. A42 6391 (1990)

    [11] T Le-Brun, M Lavolleé and P Morin X-ray and Inner Shell Processes (AIP Conf. Proc. 215) (eds) T A Carison, M O Krause and S Manson (New York : AIP) p 846 (1990)

    [21] K B MacAdam (to be published) (1991)

[23] T Roy PhD Thesis (University of Calcutta, India) (1992)

    X. Footnotes

As far as possible, footnotes should be avoided.

    XI. Appendices

All appendices should be numbered consecutively and typed on separate sheets.

Manuscripts which do not conform to these conventions are returned to the authors immediately.

    Corrections and Modifications

Authors are requested to exercise the utmost care in the preparation of manuscripts so that there is little need to incorporate alterations at the final stage. Extensive modifications at this stage are not allowed.

    IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CONTRIBUTORS

The contributors should provide the following items while submitting the manuscript.

    (A) Suggested Reviewer:

It is highly recommended that the authors should suggest the names of five potential reviewers. The reviewers should be from the same field and should have considerable knowledge and/ research experience on the subject of the manuscript. The suggested reviewer should not be a collaborator of the authors. The authors are requested to provide (i) name, (ii) designation, (iii) affiliation, (iv) country and (v) email address (most preferably the official University or Institute email address). The reviewers should be suggested from different parts of the globe.

    (B) Novelty statement:

During the submission of a manuscript, authors need to provide us a statement of novelty. This statement will be used for the initial screening and can be shared with the reviewers. The statement should have a maximum length of 150 words. The authors should avoid any discussion in the novelty statement that is already present in the abstract or introduction. The statement should emphasis why the research has been undertaken (the context and importance of the work), why the work is suitable for the journal, the possible impact of the work to the scientific community, and how it can make significant advancement in the topic over the previously published works. The statement should be written in a simple language, which is understandable to non-experts.
