About the journal

Aims and scope

The

Journal of the National Cancer Center (JNCC) is a peer-reviewed and

fully open-access journal that publishes high-quality articles in all

areas of cancer research. Launched in March 2021, the journal aims to

promote studies that answer fundamental questions of cancer biology and

epidemiology, and facilitate state-of-the-art approaches for cancer

prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment. As a prominent platform

to communicate advances in cancer research and cancer-related health

policies, the journal presents original research articles, news stories,

systematic and focused reviews, commentaries, brief communications,

correspondences, and editorials.

JNCC

adopts an efficient process of rigorous yet rapid review of submitted

manuscripts so that timely findings of significant scientific impact can

be published with minimal delay. JNCC particularly encourages

submission of randomized controlled clinical trials, for which expedited

review process will be provided. The journal now publishes on a

bimonthly basis.

JNCC

is supervised by the National Health Commission of China and is

sponsored by the National Cancer Center (NCC). NCC is the national

authority for cancer prevention and control in China.

The main responsibilities of NCC include:

Assist the National Health Commission in developing national cancer prevention and control strategies;

Organize and oversee the national cancer registration network, release the annual report of the national cancer registry;

Establish clinical guidelines for cancer diagnosis and treatment;

Promote and facilitate clinical trials for new drugs and devices for cancer treatment;

Build programs for cancer screening and early detection;

Develop and implement effective cancer primary preventive strategies;

Conduct scientific research on cancer prevention and control;

Carry

out relevant trainings, academic exchanges, and international

cooperation with International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC),

U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), Asian National Cancer Center

Alliance (ANCCA), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), and prestigious

universities, etc.;

Undertake other tasks assigned by the National Health Commission.

Article types

Article

types include but are not limited to research articles, reviews,

perspectives, short communications, correspondence, practice guidelines,

case reports, commentaries, editorials, etc.

1. Research Article

Research

Articles provide extensive descriptions of new findings of major

importance. Clinical trials, meta-analysis, intervention studies, cohort

studies, case-control studies, epidemiological estimates,

cost-effective analysis, studies of screening and diagnosis tests, and

other observational studies are classified as Research Articles.

Systematic Reviews with meta-analysis are also published as Research

Articles. JNCC encourages authors to follow PRISMA reporting guidelines

in preparing their Systematic Reviews with meta-analysis.

Research

Articles are peer-reviewed. Authors of Research Articles are required

to follow the Equator Reporting guidelines and should focus on accuracy,

brevity, and clarity in their presentation and avoid lengthy

introductions, repetition of data from tables and figures in the text,

and unfocused discussions. A Research Article should include a

structured Abstract, 3-6 Keywords, an Introduction, and sections with

succinct titles. Limit the main text to 6000 words, excluding the

abstract, references, figures, and tables. A maximum of 10 figures and

tables and 100 references are allowed. Materials and Methods should

include sufficient details organized in a logical way to allow for other

researchers to replicate the experiment or validate the observations,

and are recommended to be included in Supplementary Materials (there is

no such constraint on any additional references associated with Methods

or Supplementary Materials).

2. Review

A

Review must provide a scholarly, unbiased, and comprehensive

perspective on previously published work in a relevant area of oncology,

and must satisfy an unmet need in the medical literature. The scope of a

Review should be broad enough that it is not dominated by the work of a

single laboratory and particularly not by the authors' own work.

Reviews

are peer-reviewed. Limit the main text to 8000 words, excluding the

abstract, references, figures, and tables. A maximum of 10 figures and

tables and 300 references are allowed. Additional tables and figures

should be put in Supplementary Materials.

3. Practice Guideline and Consensus

A

Practice Guideline refers to a public statement from an organization or

representative group of experts that includes evidence-based

recommendations to inform medical practice and optimize patient care. A

Consensus refers to a public statement from a representative group of

experts that provides guidance on an issue for the purpose of advancing

understanding and improving patient care.

JNCC's

expectations for such guidelines and consensuses statement are

consistent with those of the Institute of Medicine's report on Clinical

Practice Guidelines. Guidelines and Consensus committees should be

convened by a non-profit, cancer or related health organization that is

committed to broad and objective input from recognized experts on the

topic. Processes for deliberation must be clearly described and be free

of bias. Funding sources should be clearly stated.

Practice

Guidelines and Consensuses are peer-reviewed. Submissions should

contain a maximum of 6000 words (excluding the abstract, references,

figures, and tables), around 10 figures/tables, and 100 references.

4. Perspective

Perspective

articles are focused articles on topics of interest to a broad

audience, but are written from a personal viewpoint in a scholarly,

thorough, well-referenced, systematic, and evidence-based manner. They

are intended to provide a forum to be more speculative than Reviews, but

should remain balanced and are intended to cover timely and relevant

topics in oncology.

As

a guideline, Perspectives should provide the following: 1) Discuss

current advances and future directions, 2) Clear presentation of the

authors' perspective, 3) Accurate presentation and citations of other

authors' work, 4) May include original data as well as personal insights

and opinions. Perspective articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum

word count of 3000, and may contain no more than 1 figure/table, and a

maximum of 30 references. Perspectives shall have no more than 3

authors, although this may be flexible at the discretion of the

Editor-in-Chief.
